It would seem that in this place in time, that a great number of you have Cell
Phones. They can bring you much pleasure when you are able to receive or make phone calls to your loved ones, make appointments, and transact other important business. They can be great when you are away from home and can still answer or make calls.
But, what happens when a text is received that is not a message from someone you know? What do you do when texts that can be scary or worrisome come your way?
Many of you have questions, like “where did they get my number”, “how do they have so much information”.
Many companies that you have done or do business with, sell a list of phone numbers (without names) to other companies. Some use the numbers to either text or call. They have no other information about you.
Some of the texts that you may possibly receive are those that say that you owe a certain amount of money. Some will say if this is not for you, call. If you do not call we will charge your credit card. The problem is that if you call they will ask you to verify your card number. If you give the number they will charge it as much as they can. Much more than said initially. Be Aware
Another text or call is for owing back taxes. They can be identified on either call or text from “United States”. Be assured this not a government organization. The IRS, from their website, states that the IRS never texts or calls. They contact by mail. In the news, there was a senior man that received a call saying that he owed several thousand dollars in back taxes and if he didn’t pay, the man would be arrested. Out of fear he gave the caller his debit card number. They took everything he had in his bank account. Be Aware
Hopefully this will help many of you that have experienced similar texts or calls. It is my advice is that you do not return these calls or texts. Most true creditors as the IRS use the mail to notify you.
See you next time
